Can I call from my landline?

Maja -

I can't download the app, can I still call from my landline?

Yes! If your phone doesn’t support the newest version of the Rebtel app, then there are still two ways for you to make calls with Rebtel. You can create your account through our website and call with Shared Local Numbers or an Access Number.

Access numbers

When you call an access number you need to provide your Rebtel registered phone number and PIN code to identify yourself. You then dial the number you want to call.

Shared local numbers

Calling with Shared Local Numbers is essentially a shortened version of calling with an access number. The idea is that you’re often calling from a specific phone number to a specific phone number, so you set up a special local access number just for you. When you call that number from your registered Rebtel phone number we know it’s you and we know who you want to call, so we connect you to your international contact directly.

These options are not available in every country. Find the list of countries where these options are offered here.

How do I call with access numbers?

If you don’t have a phone that is compatible with the newest version of the Rebtel app you can place your calls with Rebtel using access numbers or shared local numbers.

Start by finding the Access Number located nearest to you. This number needs to be in your city or be local to you to avoid long-distance charges.

You can find a list of Rebtel Access Numbers here.

Once you have located your access number, just follow these steps:

  1. Dial the access number
  2. Identify yourself - the IVR (recorded voice message) will ask you to identify yourself. Type in your registered phone number and pin code.
  3. Then dial in the international phone number of your friend (including the country code) and press the hash key “#”. You will be connected to your friend abroad

The same calling rates apply as when using your local numbers or calling from your application.

If you are traveling abroad, be sure to call your access number in the country/city you are currently in and dial the access number from a local phone to avoid extra charges.

If you are abroad and plan on using the app to call make sure to set your call setup to "Travel Mode" to avoid being charged international fees by your operator.

How do I call with shared local numbers?

Shared local numbers are a way of saving the contacts you call the most for easy access when calling without the Rebtel app. This is a good option for you if the latest version of our app is not compatible with your device. You create a personalized local number that is assigned to your contact, and whenever you call that number with your registered phone number Rebtel connects your call internationally.

Shared local numbers connect your call through a local call with your local operator. Your operator will charge you for a local call, so this is an ideal option if you have cheap or unlimited local minutes.

Shared local numbers are only available if you are in a Rebtel country. Check here to see if your country of residence is included.

How do I create my shared local numbers?

First you need to create a shared local number for your contact.

Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Start by logging in to your Rebtel account from our website
  2. Click on "Local Numbers" at the bottom of your screen
    • If you're on the Rebtel homepage, click on your profile picture in the top right hand corner and then "Local numbers"
  3. Click on "Add Number" to add a new local number for a contact.
  4. Enter your contact's name and phone number (in the international calling format +XXX) and click on "Continue"
  5. You will then be provided with a local number for your new contact

I have created a local number, how do I call?

Dial the local number provided from your registered phone number to call this contact using Rebtel. If you’re calling from your cellphone make sure to save their Local Number in your phone for easy access!

You can also edit, disconnect or delete your contacts by clicking on the "..." button next to a contact.

Remember that you can't use Local Numbers with the Rebtel app! If you have our app, it’s better to call with the app!
